A Brief HistoryThe county is located in southeast North Dakota, and was created on January 4, 1873 by an act of the Dakota Territory legislature, Grand Rapids was named the county seat. The county was organized on October 27, 1881, and named for Judson LaMoure, a member of the territorial/state legislature from 1872-1918. The present county seat is LaMoure, founded in 1882.
