GOLDEN WEDDING EVENT
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin B. Holbrook last week celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, which occurred at the home of the bride, near Richwood, Union county, Ohio, March 23, 1850. About seventy-five friends and relatives gathered at the home of Liston M. Holbrook of Pleasant Lake, to take part in the festivities. An original poem was read by Birdie Holbrook, a granddaughter of the worthy couple. A banquet was a feature of the occasion.
Relatives present were three sons and their wives, two grandsons and their wives, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Holbrook came from Adams county, Nebraska to North Dakota in March, 1887. Mr. Holbrook was born in Westmoreland county, New Hampshire, in August, 1829, and his wife (nee Gearhardt) was born in Delaware county, Ohio, in February, 1834.
In the fall of 1855 they settled in Central Michigan, but at the opening of the war returned to Ohio. In June, 1863, Mr. Holbrook enlisted in the Thirteenth Ohio Volunteers, and was sent into the Indian service in the Rocky Mountains. He saw three years of service, during which he was accompanied by his wife and three children.
In 1866 they moved overland from Ohio to Iowa, and later, went to Nebraska. They have three sons and one daughter, twenty-three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
