DROWNED.

Louis Stegner, of Illinois, a young man about 30 years of age, employed on the Expansion, was drowned in the Missouri river last Saturday. The accident occurred near Elm Point, about ten miles above Washburn.

The boat was on the return trip from Mannhaven, and at the time of the accident Stegner was engaged in ripping a plank and as he cut through the board would push the plank further out. His cousin was assisting him and when near the end Schinedrey started to turn the board and in doing so the end struck the water, throwing him into the water.

His cousin gave the alarm and attempt at rescue was made but nothing could be seen of the man. It is supposed that he was struck by the wheel of the boat as the man was a good swimmer and would have been able to save himself. Nothing was known regarding the drowned man here as he had but recently arrived here.

Search was made but up to the present the body has not been recovered.
