    Obituary of Mrs. Laura Farmer

Laura Frances Wilson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Wilson, was born June 12, 1851, at Hermon, Illinois, and pasted away in her home near Fort Rice, ND, at 8 AM Sunday, July 20, at the age of 79 years, one month and eight days.

She received her education in Illinois, attended Hedding college, Abingdon, Illinois, from 1868-1870. She went with her parents to Montezuma, Iowa, as pioneers when the country was new. Here she was married to John A. Farmer on Dec. 25, 1873, and lived until 1906 when the family moved to a homestead near Fort Rice and she again took up the duties of a pioneer.

Mr. Farmer, a Civil War veteran, passed away in August, 1921. After his death Mrs. Farmer made her home in Kansas City, Mo., until two years ago when she returned to the homestead to be near her daughter, Mrs. Knox, who attended her during her last illness.

She is survived by five children and ten grandchildren. The former are John W. and Irvine W. of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Ethel Knox and Clide A. of Fort Rice; and Theodore R. of Fargo. One daughter, Mrs. Katherine Ulmer, passed away twelve years ago and a daughter and son, Lucille and Loraine, twins, died in infancy.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

Mrs. Farmer was a member of the Methodist church, an earnest Christian and a most devoted mother. She has ever been known by her neighbors and many friends as a charming and attractive woman of the highest type of character and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was in declining health for several years and although she suffered constantly during the last months of her life, she was never heard to complain and refused to take to her bed.

Her life of unselfish devotion to her loved ones ended peacefully Sunday morning and she passed to her reward.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
    Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled,
The boon His love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven.
