Pierce County History
Established by the territorial legislature on 11 March 1887, the county was named for Gilbert Ashville Pierce (1839-1901), a newspaperman, territorial governor (1884-1886), and U. S. Senator (1889-1891). Government was organized 6 April 1889.
County seat: Rugby
Area -- 1018 square miles
2000 Population -- 4,675.
