SLOPE COUNTY FORMATION

Slope County was formed in 1915. It was originally part of Billings County. Billings was divided to form three other counties: Bowman, Slope, and Golden Valley. You may want to check records in these other counties, especially if you are looking for records prior to 1915. Bowman was split off and became the southwest corner of North Dakota. Later Golden Valley and Slope were created out of the remaining Billings County area.
